She has a background in pediatric nursing from the University Medicine Mainz, Germany where she worked as a pediatric nurse in infant neurology at the University Hospital, Mainz and at NICU at the University Hospital in Frankfurt. After graduating from the MEP at Ryerson University, Toronto, ON, in 2017, she initially worked rurally in Rocky Mount House, AB serving women from Sunchild and O’Chiese First Nations. Further called to support marginalized communities she was led to pilot the Aboriginal Program at Elbow River Healing Lodge, in Calgary, AB. She has been working part time as an in-house midwife at Rockyview General Hospital since May 2022, and has very much enjoyed working with the amazing obstetric and nursing community there. Building inter- professional relationships in midwifery is very important to Theresia. Theresia is passionate about water birth which was kindled during an international placement in New Zealand where she came to respect the ancient and traditional magical soothing and healing qualities of water in childbirth.
Theresia’s message: “I found my calling to midwifery later in life through self-exploration and reflection on my own childbirth experiences. After facing both an emergency Cesarean section, for a cord prolapse followed by a beautiful Le-Boyer inspired natural birth, in a hospital. It was an empowering and healing experience that bandaged my initial traumatic birth experience. This experience has opened my heart to midwifery and allowed me to share my love and admiration for the courage and strength women behold in birthing. I cherish the midwifery model of care. It is not only about sharing medical knowledge and guide you to make safe choices but to help us to build a team with the goal of empowering women to trust and embrace their bodies in both labour and childbirth.
My journey has a midwife has only confirmed that Midwifery is my greatest passion. I am choosing to work with Honeycomb Midwives because we are a true team supporting each other there.
I am looking forward to meet you and bring my skills and passion for midwifery to your birthing experience."
